Officiating
INTRODUCTION
Officiating through both sparring and poomsae is an integral aspect of Taekwondo’s success. The role of referees in both aspects of Taekwondo competition entail rigorous training and constant upgrading of knowledge, to this end through its affiliates and ATWA’s own activities a pathway from grass roots to Olympic Level officiating is available for our Members.
Western Australian Referees in both Poomsae and Sparring have a proud history in excellence, with referees in both fields being selected to officiate at World Championships. Additionally Western Australian Referees in both aspects have been awarded best Referee at both World Sparring and World Poomsae Championships.
ATWA work with the NSO Australian Taekwondo, the regional body the World Taekwondo Oceania to ensure training and experience opportunities are in place, so those whom ultimately wish to officiate at the highest levels are prepared to successfully undertake World Taekwondo qualification courses.
AIM
The aim is for Australian Taekwondo Western Australia Inc to work in conjunction with the National Governing Body to create pathways for the best development and advancement of referee standard and knowledge in both poomsae and sparring officiating.
OBJECTIVE
To develop a broad based State pool of Referees, while advancing the overall officiating standard of Western Australian Poomsae Referees from novice through advanced levels. To assist in producing quality Referees through interaction with appropriate training providers.
